I've been to this restaurant a few times and always enjoyed it. One issue I have is that if you haven't booked, the staff usually pull a face as though it's going to be a massive struggle to seat you, even if the place is relatively quiet (as it was on this occasion).
However, saying that, the service was very quick and efficient. The waitress was friendly, but brisk in her manner.
To start with, the menu is extensive. They have a great range of burgers and grills, including lobster, which you can have with steak. Prices range from standard to a little on the high side.
I ordered The Very Cheese burger, medium rare. This is the first place I have been asked how I want a burger cooked, so I guessed and went with how I'd have a steak, and it paid off.
The half-pound burger was incredibly juicy, cooked perfectly. I added bacon to mine which gave a lovely saltiness, though I did suffer a little excess oil which I assume was from both the bacon and the cheddar cheese melting over it.
The burgers come with onion rings, which I'm not normally a fan of, but these had a slightly spicy breadcrumb coating and were delicious.
The side salad was simple, with a lovely creamy dressing and what I think were sunflower seeds.
The portions here are HUGE! I couldn't finish all the chips but made sure I ate the rest just because it was so delicious.
After a little break, I found room for dessert, ordering their Chocolate Nemesis. The waitress was once again quite brisk, she practically threw the plates at us before rushing off.
This is a very rich dessert, beautiful soft texture with a slightly harder top, like a large chocolate brownie. It was served cold with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and redcurrants.
Despite being tasty, I couldn't help wishing it was served warm, or at least with ice cream rather than whipped cream. Again, this was a sizeable portion.. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've left plenty of room after dinner.
I would definitely recommend this place, the only problem is that you might struggle to order anything else from the menu once you know how good their burgers are! I would also advise you call ahead and book a table, so as to avoid any face pulling from the staff.
