There is no online menu for the Halfway House (when we visited at least), and I'm the type who likes to study a menu before arriving, but it was actually quite a nice treat to turn up not knowing what would be offered.
The service was friendly and reasonably quick., we were given a booth near the bar and drinks arrived quickly.
The menu is a good size, lots of variety, particularly in the fish and seafood section, which is often lacking in other restaurants. I chose the salmon, which came with scallops, asparagus, spinach and sautéed potatoes, with a hollandaise sauce.
The presentation was nice, though it looked a little oily. But it tasted lovely, the salmon was cooked well, the asparagus had a nice bite to it, and it generally all went together really nicely. I didn't really notice the scallops that much, they seemed to get a little lost in the dish, but I felt the rest of the meal compensated for this.
For dessert, I had sticky toffee pudding with custard, which came out as hot as lava! It was delicious and indulgent, despite it burning my mouth several times. The sponge was soft, moist beautifully sweet soaked in the sauce.
I would recommend booking if you want to try this restaurant, we had been meaning to go here for a while but it seems to get very busy. We will definitely be going back!
