I've passed this place several times on the way to other pubs and have always wanted to try it out, so we went here for Sunday lunch.
The weather was horrible when we visited, and coming in to a warm fire and friendly service was lovely.
The Sunday menu was the only one on offer, I chose the beef, which of course came with roast potatoes (roasted in duck fat), root vegetables, a huge Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
The beef was probably the nicest roast beef I have ever had, thickly sliced and very slightly pink. It was soft and delicious, I just wished there was more of it. Unfortunately I found my Yorkshire a bit overdone, and the vegetables were nice, but not spectacular. Overall it was very nice, and I'm being picky because it wasn't the cheapest Sunday roast at £15 for the main course, and if it wasn't for the delicious beef, I think I might have been disappointed.
For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. I love sticky toffee pudding, and usually it scalds my mouth until I'm at least halfway through it, however this one was served at a suitable temperature to eat safely. Also, it was gorgeous. The sponge was soft, the sauce sweet, and the ice cream creamy and cooling. Again, I just wish there had been more of it!
The pub was empty when we arrived, but quickly filled up so I would recommend booking if you want to visit this pub. I'll definitely try it again, I'd like to try some of the things on their regular menu (maybe during the week as they accept Tastecard).
